10 day weather forecast for

The Meribel

Valley

MERIBEL

Méribel, in spite of its rapid growth, has managed to retain a traditional chalet feel. It’s at the centre of the three valleys ski area and links easily into the Courchevel and Belleville valleys. In fact there are now four ski valleys to explore with Orelle (Maurienne Valley) being the fourth.

Méribel is one of the most popular resorts in Europe for English-speaking skiers along with Courchevel and Val d’Isere. It has a unique character where the rich and famous rub shoulders with the party mad and the ski bums and yet somehow it manages to cater for every taste.

Meribel provides a wide choice of accommodation from chalets to apartments and village houses in the many hamlets and villages scattered on the approach to this resort. The valley’s entertainment and gastronomic delights are many as it stretches up the mountain from Méribel Village at 1400m to the top of Mottaret at 1800m.

The heart of the resort is Méribel 1450, which houses most of the shops, restaurants, and the lift hub of La Chaudanne. A bi-weekly street market adds colour. It must be noted that Méribel Village and Meribel resort are two separate places. The village is situated a 2 km drive away from 1450, but linked by chair-lift into the ski area. Further down the valley is Les Allues, a growing area with a quieter more local atmosphere, and at the bottom of the valley the spa resort of Brides-Les-Bains is also connected to the ski area by a long gondola. Méribel-Mottaret is a higher satellite situated at 1750m. The different sectors of town are served by a ski bus.

From Méribel an efficient network of lifts link the various Courchevel resorts, La Tania, St Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires and Val Thorens to form one of the worlds greatest ski playgrounds. In peak winter season so many English-speakers congregate here that you could be forgiven for thinking that this was a suburb of south-west London rather than a top French ski resort. Indeed French tourists often find it hard to make themselves understood, so perhaps not the place for you if you

are seeking an authentic French experience for your holiday. In fact the official visitor figures

indicate that 45% of the resorts visitors are French with the other 55% being an international

mix, with the British at the top of the league at 37.5%.
